If you drive along the esplanade at Torquay looking for the Torquay Beachfront Resort, you won't actually find it. That's because it is a ‘resort' within a resort. Confused? So was I, so let me explain.

We stayed for 3 nights in July, using a discount voucher given to us as a Christmas present, so my knowledge of this property was limited.

Torquay Beachfront Resort is actually the name given to rooms and apartments managed by Surf Coast Holiday Rentals within the complex that is branded the Wyndham Resort.

Guests pick up their keys at the Surf Coast Rentals office in Gilbert St, a short drive from the resort, and are unable to use reception services at the resort, managed by Wyndham. You can however use all the facilities and of course, pay to dine in their restaurant or use the on-site day spa.

It was not until I had driven past the resort, looked at the map & double checked the address that it clicked. Initial confusion aside, we had a lovely stay at the resort (by whichever name your call it).

Although it was only myself and the two kids on this trip (a school holiday break while hubby remained at work in Melbourne), we chose the two bedroom option. This was actually an interconnecting hotel room and one bedroom apartment, giving us heaps of space.

The hotel (kids) room featured two king single beds, a wall-mounted TV and their own bathroom with a shower. Through the door was the spacious one bedroom apartment, which was allocated to mum!

The main room featured a kitchen area, with full-sized fridge and dishwasher. There was a dining table and two sofas, as well as a TV. Off this room was the master bedroom with a very comfortable king-size bed and yet another television.

The bathroom had a bath and also housed a washing machine and dryer.

This set up gave us plenty of room to lay and play and would be comfortable and spacious enough for longer stays too.

Outside, this resort has plenty to keep kids entertained. In the depths of winter, we gave the swimming pool a miss, but the large outdoor spa was heated - big enough and warm enough to be dragged into for an evening soak, as well as another one in the rain.

There was also an indoor, which had plenty of room for kids to play, as well as a roped off lane for those wanting to do laps.

A great barbecue area had a well-placed small playground next to it.

What adds to the family friendliness of this property is its location – cross the road and walk a short distance to the fantastic Whites Beach playground, and in warmer weather, Fisherman's Beach is also walking distance.

Note: Our accommodation was independently booked and paid for. Views are my own. If a property does not meet expectations, I will not recommend it to you.
