Best known for its water sports, I was unsure what to expect of Yarrawonga-Mulwala in the depths of winter. But Kennedy Holiday Resort proved a great choice for our long weekend break.
We stayed 3 nights ($180p/n) with 3 other families, all of us staying in our own two-bedroom, free-standing villa unit. There are 6 two-bedroom units in the complex, as well as 2 three-bedroom units.
Kennedy Holiday Resort is located on the eastern edge of Mulwala - extra exciting for Melbourne kids who realised they were going to NSW for the weekend. It is walking distance to the lake (main road to cross) and just a couple of minutes' drive to a local supermarket.
Our two-bedroom unit included a very well-equipped kitchen, dining table with 6 chairs and a small lounge-room with two couches.
The main bedroom had a comfortable Queen bed, while the second bedroom had two single beds. There was a separate laundry, bathroom (shower only) and toilet.
One wall-mounted reverse cycle heat pump on the wall was enough to keep the place warm – although when the hallway door was closed for privacy in the morning, the bathroom was a bit on the chilly side.
The reason for said privacy were 8 children, aged between 5 and 11 years, who from morning to night, were running in and out of each other's units, laughing and having a wonderful time riding their scooters up & down the long driveway.
That was really a highlight – a long concrete driveway that runs through the complex, which allowed the kids to scooter to their heart's content.
The complex also included a great communal barbecue/meals area, where we had dinner each night, and even a bacon and eggs bbq breakfast one morning.
There is also a small playground opposite the meals area, and although we did not use it, there is a decent sized swimming pool as well.
Don't rule out this area for a winter escape. There was plenty to keep everyone occupied.
Our kids loved the skate-park in Yarrawonga, the Dads went to the local country footy match and we took the kids to a great chocolate factory at Corowa. We also spent a day enjoying the wonderful Rutherglen wine region.
Note: Our accommodation was independently booked and paid for. Views are my own. If a property does not meet expectations, I will not recommend it to you.
